"i love them UNTIL i feel their penises!" -billie

so life has been exciting lately. here is what has been going on, in no particular order:

the blue suede cruise: me, beth and amy went to the norwalk raceway park for the annual blue suede cruise. there is a huge car show and pretty classic cars are parked everywhere in this big open field. i wanted all of them. there were cars on the racetrack drag racing when we got there and it was really loud and awesome. we watched some cover band that wished they were the beach boys, and we danced in the stands. i got some of that good sugary carnival lemonade! finally, it got dark and we watched the neon light show (the cars have neon lights underneath and stuff and they drive around, whoohoo) and the flame throwing contest (the cars shoot flames out of their exhaust so they look like a fire-breathing dragon. awesome). we stood on the sidelines in our poodle skirts and felt like we were in the 50s. it ruled.

norm n. nite rocknroll dance party: me, amy and my parents went to the rocknroll hall of fame for an oldies danceparty and doowop show. we got to walk around the rock hall for free and saw the supremes exhibit, so that was cool. me and amy danced a lot, and we even got my parents to dance a little. seeing my dad dance to "big girls dont cry" by the 4seasons was great, and we even slow danced to a song. it was funny. we got to see performances by ben e. king (stand by me/spanish harlem), the edsels (rama lama ding dong), shades of blue (oh how happy), and the reflections (just like romeo and juliet). neat-o!

philadelphia/atlantic city: one nite, i was out eating dinner with beth and billie. we all decided to skip town the next day and just GO. we were going to go to chicago, but instead decided on philly where billie's friend jennell lives. it took 7 hours. when we got there, jennell showed us around all these cool shops that had REALLY cute stuff but we coulnt afford any of it. she lives in/near what i am assuming is the downtown area in this big, nice building, and it was awesome to be walking around at nite when it was still totally busy out and people were everywhere. we ate dinner at a place called "tattooed mom."

we decided to go to atlantic city around 11pm because it was only an hour away. we walked around looking at all the fancy casinos with their bright lights and fountains. i was in awe. i dont get out much, what can i say. so we went to the sands casino and i liked it a lot because there were big light-up dice on the front of the building. we played slot machines for a little while. its weird. we walked around outside again, wondering how close the ocean was because we knew it was around there someplace. jennell hailed a taxi and asked the driver if it was within walking distance. he told us it was right behind us. ha. it was right at the end of the street.

we started walking up this wooden ramp, but it had a high fence and i couldnt see anything yet. then i HEARD it. we started running. i had never been on a beach before. as we ran, the four of us began throwing our stuff in the sand in a little trail: shoes, purses, coats (and pants, eventually. ha). it was AMAZING. it was 1am and we were the only ones on the beach and there was the atlantic ocean in front of me. it was dark outside so the sky and the water looked like the same black backdrop, and all i could see were the white waves that would roll up onto the beach and soak us to our knees. i loved it. i was also scared, because i have this irrational fear of large bodies of water, and really, you never know what is IN there, especially when its too dark to see! but i was so excited.

we took a million pictures running, falling and jumping around on the beach, sometimes in our underwear. i never understood why people made such a big deal about the ocean before, but now i do. it made you feel so small and insignificant...but also very aware of being alive at that moment. i wanted to call everyone i knew and tell them i was in the ocean at that exact moment, but it was a little late to be calling people and telling them what i was doing when i didnt tell them i left town in the first place. i wonder what it would look like in the daytime, but i think it made a much bigger impact on me seeing it like that at nite when we were the only ones there on a still summer nite. sigh.

so we got back to philly around 3am and went to bed. the next morning, beth and i got up early to look around the city while jennell went to work and billie slept. beth and i wanted to go to a museum that we knew was in philly, called the mutter museum. it was full of various medical oddities and diseases. ha it was pretty cool. there were a lot of deformed babies in jars, and i think that was my favorite part. i also liked the abnormally large colon of some guy that they had in a glass case. when he eventually died of constipation, he had 2 and a half pailfuls of crap in his colon. UGH! it was fuckin huge. for some reason, there was also a drawing hanging in there of a guy climbing a tree to get away from a bear, and the caption said that the artist who drew it had never seen a bear in real life, which was why the bear in the picture looked more like a "smiling dog." it totally did and it was very funny, but i guess you have to see it to understand. i wish i could find a picture of it. i have always thought human skeletons were pretty darn cute, but my new favorite thing is fetus skeletons. thats not a very good picture i found, but sometimes they look like they are dancing or singing. i swear. or sometimes they look kinda like cute little monsters, like this one. maybe i am just terribly morbid. i will apologize in a minute, but first i want to share this picture of a dried skeleton of a child showing the veins and arteries. im sorry.

heh so that was interesting and stuff. another 7 hour drive, and we were back here hugging lemmy kitten, who i missed terribly. i might have had more to say, but im too tired. goodnite.

xoxo
