our sunday surprise
august 30, 2004 - 10:59 pm

a few days ago, amy called here and asked beth and i if we had any plans on sunday. we told her no. she insisted that she was taking us on a secret adventure, and wouldn't say anything more. when sunday arrived, she called beth and said she had a clue. "old mcdonald," amy said before she hung up. all day, we sat around trying to figure out why amy was taking us to a farm, and if there would be any snacks there. when amy got to our house, she made us close our eyes and open our hands. she put a handful of oatmeal in our hand and asked if we knew where we were going. we didn't. she made us close our eyes and put out our other hand. a ticket to see hall and oates. crap!

that was way too much money for that girl to spend on surprising us, but it ruled. aw. at first it sucked because it started raining, and we only had general admission tickets which meant we had to stand out in the rain the whole time. but then we found an empty tent where some company had apparently been set up earlier in the day. they even left chairs for us. so we took over the tent and contemplated a kissing booth but then realized the sort of folk in the crowd and decided against it. while i paid no attention to the average white band and michael mcdonald in the background (OLD MCDONALD!), me, beth and amy had a discussion about politics for the first time in our LIVES. it was weird and good.

hall and oates played fun things like "maneater" (which i used to be so afraid of when i was little - the line 'she'll chew you up' scared the fuck out of me), "you make my dreams," "kiss on my list," "out of touch," "she's gone," etc. but how the heck didn't they play "private eyes?" and WHY THE HECK didn't they play my favorite ever, "rich girl"?!? i was maaaaaaaaad. it was a fun time though and amy was right, definitely memorable. but lacey, where you at girl? or more importantly, where WERE you at?! for real. =(

while we sat in the tent, a girl in a tower city amphitheater shirt came over to us. we were expecting to be yelled at for taking over the tent, but instead she said "this is going to sound really stupid...i'm really retarded...but you guys look cool...and you remind me of my friends...and i just wanted to say hi!" apparently she just moved to cleveland from st. louis and she doesn't know anyone. she was so embarassed to come over and talk to us and kept apologizing and saying she was stupid, but we thought it was the cutest thing ever. we totally made friends. i talked to her online today and she loves rockabilly, the fifties AND the oc! what luck! she rules.

today was mine and beth's first day back to school. it was fine i guess. we are only there monday/wednesday/friday from 11-2:30. our criminology class seems pretty interesting, and we might get to take a fieldtrip to visit a jail or prision. our native american literature class is fine. there is a kid with the last name of "pickins" in it. he is skinny. slim pickins is in our class. our african american art history class is my least favorite, but that is mostly because they moved it to the art building across the street today and we are too lazy to walk outside to get to our class now. blah. we saw tonytommydixon and he walked us to our art class, so that ruled. but we didn't get to see anyone else and that was pretty lame.

i just ate a spaghetti sandwich and made a total mess of myself. you'd probably have laughed, if you could have seen it.

xoxo
