so i don't rememer if i mentioned any of this in here, but probably not. a few weeks ago when beth and i first started doing the new tuesday nite hot trash slot, we got an email in our mailbox that was supposedly from jeff magnum, former bass player of the dead boys. he told us that he enjoyed the show and that he was sitting in new york drinking beers and listening. over the next couple of weeks he would email us to request songs, and we debated whether it was someone playing a mean joke on us or what.
last week "jeff" emailed to request the who, and he mentioned that he and his wife would be vacationing in cleveland this week. half-kidding, i suggested that he come up to the station if he wasn't busy on tuesday nite. he said he would be honored! when beth and i thought about it and accepted the fact that it may in fact be real, we were quite honored ourselves. but then everyone kept telling us that it was probably some crazy person pretending to be him, and when we would go downstairs at nite to let him in the building he would be there to stab us in the throat or something.
so the day finally came yesterday and we were really nervous either way. because either we would be shy and silly, or we would get our jugulars slit. heh. BUT THE BEST THING HAPPENED! beth and jeff RULED! haha.
jeff brought a bunch of records from home and even made a little setlist about what he wanted to play. he kept telling us "you're probably going to hate it all! if you want to turn something off, just do it, i won't get offended!" it was cute. he brought us presents with a post-it note on it that said "erin + beth" and inside was a dead boys cd (twistin on the devils fork: live at cbgbs 1977&78), a cd single (frankenstein: eve of the dead boys), and the new dvd (live at cbgbs 1977). how nice! his wife beth was so adorable and nice.
jeff played a band called the cyclones, who are some friends from NY that asked him to play bass on their recording. it ruled. he also brought this 7" of a disco song called "do you speak french?" and told a story on the air about how the dead boys were touring europe in '77 and they would hear that song 20 times a day because it was really popular at the time, so he just *had* to go to the record store and buy the damn thing. all of us couldn't stop laughing while we played it for everyone.
when we had to give a station id, we asked jeff if he would say one so that we can make a hot trash id out of it if we want to. he told us he would do anything because he was our honored guest, haha. it went something like this: "this is jeff magnum from the dead boys and you're listening to hot trash with erin and beth on wcsb cleveland 89.3fm...every tuesday nite from 11-1. so listen, because that's what i do!" haha he kept telling us how much he liked our show and how we play such good stuff when he is listening at home, and beth admitted that she has started listening while she works out. they rule so much!
we took pictures together so we can put them on our hot trash profile on myspace, and beth even brought a camera and was taking pictures of me and beth while we were doing stuff. it was so cute. we exchanged contact info and they told us to look them up if we are ever in NY. i wish they would adopt us. i had the best time ever, they were soo nice, haha.
so i know i have more things to update about but that is enough for one day. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANDREW!
xoxo
