horriblefest
november 13, 2005 - 8:28 pm
"i want endless amounts of good times." that is what my friend matt just said, and i thought i should adopt it as my new motto. how fuckin right on is that?!
so horriblefest has come and gone. and i just had three of the busiest, craziest, most tiring, but FUN days of my life. like i was just telling felipe, it is a good thing that i don't drink and stuff. because i went all out this weekend, or as "all out" a person who doesn't do those things can get. if i was drinking or doing whatever else, i would have been out of control. still, it was great. since i had been looking forward to this for so long, i saved up some money and took days off work and figured i would fuckin live it up. and i did. i spent money and bought whatever i wanted. i don't think i have ever gotten so much new music at one time as i did this weekend. luckily, half the time i ended up getting it for free so i didn't go broke. i kissed SO MUCH this weekend! ha. i spent the most time this weekend rocking. but a close runner-up is definitely kissing. dang. that was fun. i rocked out, i was more outgoing than usual, i met new friends and i just had so much fun...i needed this weekend soooooo bad.
thursday was my favorite of the three days. i'm not sure why, i just had the most fun i think.
-the butchers opened, and they also stayed with us all weekend. those are some of the best boys around, and i wish they lived closer than 5 hours away because i would want to be best friends. they claim we saw one of their last bloody shows before they start "dressing like the kinks." i will miss that blood.
-the radio beats were awesome. i met my friend steve. at the end of their set, he said into the microphone "erin, you should make out with me after the show! that would be sweet!" haha it was way embarassing. but funny.
-i met my friend matt from chicago. he promised me he would behave all weekend. he did not. haha by the end he was setting off firecrackers inside the beachland and i don't think he was coherent enough to realize who i was when i hugged him goodbye at the end of the fest. ha. he is great though.
-the trailer park tornadoes were pretty good. the song "bad love" is really good.
-jeffery novak one man band was amaaazing. no wonder that kid pukes when he is done with his set sometimes. i can't imagine doing all those things at once! and he rocks the fuck out. he was also wearing this very great sweater that looked like a grandma would wear it. it was black with sparkly red bows all over it.
-the king kahn and bbq show were fucking GREAT. haha. at one point, king kahn announced that they had a special guest to sing the next song. he walked to the back of the stage and started stipping down to his boxers. he put on a short, sparkly silver dress and a purple wig. he slipped his underwear off, and then he lifted up his dress and showed everyone his weiner. he sang like tina turner. it was fucking hilarious. he also stuck a giant plastic baby jesus up his dress and humped it.
-the black lips rocked the fuck out, too. at one point in the middle of the set, two of the guys in the band just walked up to each other and started making out, and then they continued playing like nothing happened. haha do they always do that? i never saw them before, so i don't know.
friday was my least favorite day, but at least it was the day i met my new best friend. people always tell me i have too many of them. i say you can never have enough. anyway...
-the homo stupids are fun. peff is my hero. that scary guy is not.
-holy shit! was good. i was afraid that they were crazy because i knew they might be staying with us that nite, haha. as it turned out, they were all so nice!
-shoot it up was one of my favorite parts. they ruled. i coudln't see anything from way in the back where i was, so i didn't realize that the cute little kid who came up and introduced himself to me and beth later was actually joe from shoot it up. apparently ryan told him to meet us because we were the hot trash girls. haha i didn't know we were a cleveland attraction, but that's cool. so we met joe and he was really shy but i loved him right away. we hung out practically all weekend (at the shows at least) after that. and now i miss him terribly. DAMN CALIFORNIA! what a fucking adorable kid.
-rat traps were the other highlight for me. they ruled. does everything that jeffery novak associates with rule? this question is worth looking into. it was very funny when they were setting up to play, because beth didn't know jeffery novak was in the band but she saw him sitting at rat trap's drum set. she turned to me and said, "oh, so now jeffery novak thinks he's in rat traps?" and i had to tell her "that's because HE IS!" hahaha. she thought she was making a joke, but the joke was on her. durrr.
-the blowtops were fun. what was with all the girls in the audience trying to make out with the singer? we had to meet them because they were staying with us later that nite, but we didn't know what any of them really looked like so it was hard, haha. luckily traci found us first and we learned that aaron was the one asking if we had "twister" at home. haha.
basically, i didn't watch any of the rest of the bands because i was hanging out with my best friend joe in the next room. so i missed wolfdowners and clockcleaner. we left before human eye because the butchers went to see the fleshtones and we needed to let them in the house. and also get food prepared, because we tried to be good hostesses and hook the bands up as far as food is concerned.
so we went home to get food for everyone, and around 2:30am everyone started getting here. the butchers (alvis<3, ryan, dusty) and the blowtops (traci, dave, scott, aaron, and their dude KICK BART) came, and so did holy shit! (tony, eric, tabman, andy) and my friend matt. it was pretty funny. most of them were wasted. you know what kind of stuff ensues after THAT...
-andy was going through all my records and playing dj. he was very quiet, and passed out soon after he got here.
-somebody (i think it was tabman and eric maybe?) was playing with the peewees playhouse playset, and they were making the dolls walk and talk. it was very funny to watch them from the next room when they didn't know i was.
-tabman wrestled tony, which, if you know tony, you would know is probably not the best idea. he is huge! i had to stand on a chair just to hug him goodbye this morning. so they wrestled for a while and then somehow matt gave tony a bloody nose and tony wiped it all over matts face.
-one of the best parts of the whole weekend was seeing big tony walk around with this little strawberry shortcake mug in his hand. priceless.
-there was a very long and vehement discussion about bacon. eric was especially into it. traci asked him how he felt about beggin strips. ahhhhahaha.
-all the dudes from holy shit! fell asleep on the floor without blankets, so i found enough blankets in the house and went around and tucked them all in. haha it was silly.
saturday morning, holy shit! left to go to the rock hall and the blowtops went to my mind's eye. ezra came over to give tattoos to the butchers in my kitchen. you don't know how jealous i was to leave my house knowing people were getting tattooed in my own house and i wasn't one of them! beth and i went to moe's for the afternoon matinee show. what total madness.
-rot shit started off the show by almost getting the whole thing cancelled. kids were throwing around tables and chairs. and the band pulled out this live eel from a plastic shopping bag and started whipping it around the room. it would fly somewhere and slap someone upside the head and lay on the floor wiggling a little, and everyone would back up and look like they wanted to throw up, and then someone would be brave and pick the thing up and throw it somewhere else. it was crazy and awful/awesome and i hid behind a pole so i didn't get an eel on my head.
-i don't have much to say about the rest of the bands, even though a bunch more played the matinee. i just loved fashion! fashion! and the image boys a lot, and i was sad they did't have any records. i wonder if derek is always that friendly, even when he is sober.
the other bands were mcshitz, kill the hippies, river city tanlines, cider, and some other band that wore skimasks. is that everyone? i feel like i forgot. so yeah. that was fine. i just hung out with my best friend joe AND I LOVED THAT SHIT. ohmygosh fucking adorable. then it was to the beachland for the final nite of horriblefest.
it was a lineup i was really pumped about. and the show was really great, too. i was just in a worse mood, so that might be why thursday keeps standing out in my mind as the best one.
-the jeffs were fun. for some reason i can't think of that singers name but he pretends to hate hot trash when really he loves it, so i pretend to hate the jeffs when really i love them.
-king louie showed up a day late, so he got to play between bands. it was awesome to see him! i kinda always thought i would never get the chance.
-the krunchies rocked the fuck out. their set was so good. fast and loud and catchy as fuck.i finally got their record and they gave me a tshirt. they are still thanking us from the last time they slept on our floor, haha. i like those kids. they are nice!
-everyone was talking all day about how once upstab played, it would be "the last show the beachland ever has." so everyone had their guard up, but it wasn't even that bad. someone set off fireworks even though the show was threatened to be cancelled if it happened. whatev.
-the functional blackouts played, and while they were good, they didn't play either one of my favorite songs ("ticktickticktick" or "stupid face"). ugh! earlier in the day, beth and i met brian i think is his name...and he was really funny so we hung out with him at the show some of the time.
-cuntpuppet was kinda funny, i guess. i was bored so i went in the hallway to buy lots of cool shit and talk to everyone.
-the feelers were awesome. it was the best time i've seen them yet. they went nuts and rocked the fuck out and you could actually HEAR them this time. usually you can't hear dan singing. i love those boys a lot. i wish i would have had more time to hang out with them this weekend, but i'm sure i'll see them fairly soon.
-the catholic boys were awesome too. i loved it. "psychic voodoo mind control" is such a great song and sounds SO good live!
-the jabbers played last and i didn't really pay so much attention. they were fine. mostly i hung out with alvis<3, or sat around with my best friend joe who got kicked in the mouth or something. i was so sad for it to end.
so it was officially over, but there was still one last pajama party over at the sugar shack with the butchers and the blowtops. i haven't laughed that hard in a long time.
-the blowtops played a game called "kick bart." the object was to walk over to their friend bart, who was sleeping on the floor, and kick him. the poor guy!
-we made aaron sit in the fart chair, and we made scott do fart situps. it was hilarious.
-then the blowtops really really wanted to play "twister." haha. so there was this intense game going on for a while. traci tried to pass on her turn by saying "everyone's gonna fart! that's the problem!" aaron told her, "i didn't fart, and i played it!" and then she gave in. all the guys wouldn't stop demanding a game of "all girl twister" so me, beth and traci had to play so that they would shut up. i won all the times that i played so i am the champ. i had to play ryan from the butchers to win an argument about which song was on my sam cooke record, and of course i won...but i was right about the argument in the first place so i guess it doesn't really matter.
-people started going to sleep. when dave passed out, me and scott put cute little stuffed animals and glo-worms all over him. he looked pretty peaceful. finally, it was just me, scott and ryan left so we threw in the towel and went to bed around 5:30am.
i woke up this morning just in time to see the blowtops getting ready to leave. they left us a cute thank you note on the fridge, but i hugged them all goodbye. eric and tony from holy shit! stopped by to pick up the bag eric left here, and as they were leaving beth heard the following conversation take place outside her bedroom window:
"those girls are the biggest sweethearts in the WORLD!"
"I KNOW!"
ahhhhahaha. everyone was so nice this weekend. the butchers hung out a while, long enough to eat cinnamon rolls before it was hug & goodbye time for them as well. then i literally ran to my bed, and slept all damn day long.
what a blast. sorry if you went and didn't have fun, but then you're probably lame. sorry if you DIDN'T go, because then you are definitely lame. as soon as i get some pictures back, they will be posted. thanks to everyone for a great fucking weekend.
xoxo
